Mr Fitzgerald qualified in medicine in 1988, gaining his FRCS in 1993 and completed his specialist training in plastic surgery in 2003. He is currently working as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon within the NHS with a particular interest in reconstructive microsurgery following an extended period of training in Australia and Canada.
He has subsequently gained experience in a range of cosmetic surgery procedures.
